I saw Slumdog Millionaire the other day. I hate seeing high quality movies... not because they're bad... usually far from it... but because I'm always obligated to evaluate or express an opinion of them afterwards, and high concept or art movies come with a different set of rules than, say, Zombie Strippers. I most often go to a movie to be entertained, to enjoy what I'm watching. I can judge them based on how much I enjoy them. Movies like Slumdog are experiences. They (usually) rise above typical "entertainment" in quality of writing/movie-making. I don't always enjoy them, but I usually feel enriched as a person for having had the experience.
I enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire, but I'm a little guilty having "enjoyed" it when I feel like I should have been "appreciating" it.
