Have you ever thought it would be nice to make someone a birthday present instead of just buying it? Sure... It'll be special and shouldn't take very long to make. I've spent two solid nights on this thing and probably won't be finished until tomorrow. It's become more of a personal art project than a present at this point, it's exploded all over my living room, and I just want it to be over. I hope the appreciation will be proportionate to the amount of effort put into it.
